We had an office jaunt on one of the Saturdays. The idea was to gather at 10 AM on Saturday of all our Chennai team at a beach house, start with team building activities, fun games, lunch, and cocktail dinner. We had a promise to our lady staffs; the cocktail session will start after the sunset. We had a great entertaining and that day the lunch preparation was a bit late. We called for a Biriyani cook from one of the renowned hotels who expert concocting Biriyani. The lunch was ready at 3 PM with Veg Biriyani, Paneer 65, Mutton Biriyani, Onion Raita, Tomato sweet Jam. All went well. The lady staffs left around 5 PM.
The cocktail revelry starts. It was a delightful party. Some of them had family vows and started parting. Out of those people, some of them drunk and some not. The drunk people are more confidently saying “I am steady, I can drive myself”. You know, if a drunker saying “I am steady” means, he crossed his boundaries.
Some of them came by car and some of them by bikes. The boss, who is heading this festivity asserting the people who drunk to take a cab and go home. As usual, answers came, we are steady, we drunk very less and persuaded their boss, we will drive and go home carefully. This is a regular matter, the boss gave-up and he knows most of the members won’t listen after their drink. That’s the blunder he did.
Some of them took call drivers to help and some people took the non-drinkers help to drive their vehicle. Still, some drinkers decided self-drive. Many of them made up their mind to extend this party whole night and decided to stay in the beach house. That’s the reason the boss arranged the beach house with stay amenities. Out of 60 members team, 20 decided to stay. Everything went on well so far.
The ill-fated thing occurred in the morning. One of the guys who want to start early in the morning by bike. One drinker and one non-drinker started in the same bike. The unlucky part here is the drinker drives. Many of his friends counseled that guy to give the keys to the non-drinker. Again, the same attitude from the drinker, “I am steady, I had a drink last night only right, Now I am perfectly alright”. That guy drunk almost 4 Beers and two larges of whiskey. He was totally out of condition on the previous night. That’s also another reason that guy remained in the beach house.
Finally, the drinker starts his bike and non-drinker sat on the back seat. When they reached one of the big signals, a car hit on them from their back and these two guys were thrown out in the road. The guy who sat on the back got minor injuries, but the rider got a hit big time. Though it’s not his fault, still, immense harm was done. He lost 8 teeth, lips ripped off, scratches on everywhere on his body. He admitted to a neighboring hospital. The misfortune, he can’t claim insurance because it was filed as drink and drive. The car run-away, but this poor guy admitted in hospital and expended a lot of money to recuperate and he couldn’t claim insurance at all.
Another story happened in another party of the boss’s friend. The drinker hit on a guy and it was a major accident. The wounded guy was admitted in a hospital. The police filed a case against the rider was “Attempt to Murder”. It’s not the case of an accident. This rider went for jail some time and he paid a huge amount of money and efforts to come out of this case.
The moral of the story is, “Never ever allow your near & dear ones to drive after drink”.
